However, Stars of Wollongong Dance for Cancer at WIN Entertainment Centre was a record-breaker with around $215,000 raised as of Sunday - more than any of the previous events.
"We were astonished by the generosity of the Wollongong community this year, we had almost 800 people there," said Cancer Council spokeswoman Sari Boschiero.
"Everyone was smiling, the dance floor afterwards was still full when the event was meant to be closing."
The top fundraiser of the evening (and the most for any Wollongong contestant ever) was real estate agent Cristian Carvana who collected $31,411.21 in donations as of Sunday.
He was closely followed by the winner of Best Costume, Luke Rollinson, with $29,210.11.
The Michael Jackson-themed performance included a moon walk, though it was a video tribute to Mr Rollinson's two young children that drew tears and applause from the crowd.
The three of them have all battled through cancer at some point in their lives, making it "a really emotional dance", said Ms Boschiero.
The People's Choice Award went to Rob Starcic, Managing Director of Coastal Windows and Doors, who didn't let a wardrobe malfunction with his pants stop him from continuing his musical theatre-themed performance.
Ms Boschiero said each of the 14 dance duos gave exceptional performances with hundreds of pairs of eyes watching.
However, another standout performance which drew tears from the crowd she said, was from Disability Trust representative Natalie Gartshore who recently lost her grandfather to cancer.
"She was doing the dance in honour of him," Ms Boschiero said.
"It was a very touching moment for her. I think just everyone felt that from her performance."
All money raised from Dance for Cancer goes towards Illawarra cancer support and information services, as well as towards research, cancer prevention and advocacy.
