Cellar doors at Two Figs Winery, Silos Estate, Mountain Ridge Vineyard and Crooked River Winery welcomed hundreds of wine lovers while at Coolangatta Estate wine tasting was taken to another level to celebrate the 30th vintage at the Shoalhaven Heads vineyard.
Pioneering vigneron Greg Bishop said there was plenty to celebrate at the historic estate over the next few years. The Great Hall where the vertical wine tasting was conducted on the weekend turns 200 in three years. So a big celebration is being planned in three years time in the oldest building on South Coast built by Alexander Berry in 1822.
Mr Bishop did not reveal too much about what he has planned but said the occasion would not go unmarked.
If it wasn't for his late father Colin Bishop The Great Hall and other buildings dating back to 1822 at the original Coolangatta Village may have been lost forever. He restored them, found antique furniture in various locations and turned them into accommodation at what now is not only one of the most awarded vineyards in Australia but a popular tourist attraction and conference venue.
