A Wollongong man has been charged over the stabbing of an elderly man at a Sydney pub on the weekend.

Emergency services were called to the Camelia Hotel on Henderson Road at Alexandria just before 3pm Saturday. There they found an 82-year-old patron with a knife wound to his chest.
Police allege he was stabbed by a man known to him after a verbal altercation, before the offender fled the scene.
The injured man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition, where he underwent emergency surgery. As of Monday morning he was in a stable condition.
Around 3:15pm Sunday, police attended a residence on Kembla Street in Wollongong where they arrested a 61-year-old man.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Bail was refused and he is to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Monday.
