Frontman James Vann, 24, said they were initially wary of the offer as they had been independent for so long, but after thinking it through decided the four-album deal would propel them to the next level.
"We're just ramped up to a new high, just because we've been pretty quiet for a while ... and we've got a whole new album to give," he told the Mercury.
"It was all recorded a year ago and we were in the process of paying it off, and then the label jumped on board and helped us out."
The group performed as part of a showcase in Sydney on Tuesday night, and were excited for some celebratory beers and meet the "king of Sony" CEO Denis Handlin.
The VANNS have released their first single with the label, Mother, with a full album ready for release later this year. It will also be accompanied by a capital city tour.
Vann said the signing was a huge feat for the group but their music wasn't yet fully sustainable as each band member still needs to work on side projects.
"Once all the cogs start turning and once we get a few singles out, the ball will start rolling," he said.
"The music industry is just one big, chaotic beautiful, mess - it's super exciting, everything's just so unpredictable."
