MISSING THE MESSAGE
With respect to what Israel Folau has been saying, John Martin asks "What about the children?" and I must apologise to him for the Church apparently not explaining things clearly.

We may not like to hear it, but the Bible tells us in Romans 3 that "all have sinned". \Yes, all of us, from those committing the sins Israel has mentioned down to the person telling the smallest white lie, all have sinned, and as a consequence of our sin all of us deserve to "suffer eternal damnation in Hell".
However the Good News, the Gospel, which the Church is commanded to preach, which John seemed to be unaware of, is that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross allows God to show us grace and forgive us our sin so that instead of hell we spend eternity with Him in heaven.
This is the message of the Church. This is the message of Israel Folau which people seem to be overlooking.

CONSTRUCTION CONCERNS
I well remember when the tallest buildings in Sydney were the AMP Building at Circular Quay, and The Australia Square Building with its revolving restaurant.
Times and construction methods have moved on since then, but peoples trust in high rise residential buildings have gone out the window with the Opal and Mascot structural debacle.
It will be interesting to see if investigations into the cause of these major failures are found to be the result of cost cutting in construction materials.
I well recall watching the Sydney Harbour tunnel sections being cast at Port Kembla, and being floated out to sea.
A senior engineer was quite upset at the way things were done, and remarked that as the sections were being placed under salt water.
The silly buggers should have used high grade stainless Steel for reinforcement not everyday deformed steel bar.
Construction steel will rust quickly when left out in the weather, yet we often see this already corroding main support get buried in concrete.
The best in labor, the worst in materials.

WE HAVE TO ACT
In reply to the letter by John Macleod 'Icing on the Cake' (Illawarra Mercury, Saturday June 15, 2019), good to see Mr Macleod acknowledging the lack of base load energy in the electricity grid.
But, fails to recognise that both the reluctance to replace old power stations with clean coal-fired generators while pushing renewable energy has contributed to this. South Australia's renewable energy experiment is on record as a resounding failure with constant blackouts and high power prices for that state.
Currently our country has lost at least three base load power stations over the past 20 years. The reluctance to build new power stations can be blamed on both sides of politics too which the Australian people are suffering.
We need to act, and build two clean coal-fired power stations plus a new nuclear power station. The people of Australia want reliable, constant and cheap base load power that benefits both current and future generations.
