The steep walk heads up the escarpment from Austinmer to within 50 metres of the Sublime Point cafe at Bulli Tops.

While it is accessible from both directions, most walkers choose to start from the bottom.

This creates parking problems in Foothills Road and Buttenshaw Drive, where walkers leave their cars before going bush and tackling the roughly one-hour return walk.

Mr Park has lodged questions with Energy and Environment Minister Matt Kean asking if he was aware of parking issues and if he intended on doing anything about it.

This might include extending the top end of the track to the Southern Gateway Centre to provide a more user-friendly starting point at the northern end.

The Mercury asked the minister similar questions to Mr Park's.

Mr Kean's office declined to respond stating his answer to Mr Park was not due until July 10.

Mr Park said his questions to the minister were aimed at getting some action on the issue.

"Sublime Point walking track is continuing to grow in popularity with locals and visitors," Mr Park said.

"I am keen to look at ways we can enhance the track and find a solution to ease the parking issues faced in Austinmer."

As well as providing some possible relief for residents who live near the track's starting point, Mr Park said there could also be tourism benefits in extending the walk to the Southern Gateway Centre.

"If an extension was possible to connect to the gateway centre, that would provide a great opportunity to provide parking solutions at the same time as promoting the track," Mr Park said.

"We know that more and more visitors to our region are looking for eco-tourism opportunities and our walking tracks are one part of that.

"I am urging the government to seriously consider this option for extending the Sublime Point walking track."
