A Circus WOW open day at Switchfit Gym this Saturday is a chance to find out more about trying something new.
From 10am to 1.30pm at the Montague St gym visitors can check everything out from aerials to acrobalancing and object manipulation such as hula hooping and juggling.
Helen Richards said up to 50 women are regularly involved with Circus WOW which has opportunities for everyone no matter what their age or physical capacity.
"We are doing a series of sessions each showing what our classes do," she said.
Fiona McKay said Circus WOW was about connection, creativity and community. "It is a safe space for women and a way they can express themselves, participate with each other and do something extraordinary for them".
Dee Milenkovic said in nine months Circus WOW has helped her conquer her fear of heights in an environment that is "joyous and playful".
"I just get to do something I have never had a chance to do before in my life. Every week is a new learning, a new achievement and a new accomplishment. And that confidence has transferred into all aspects of my life. It is amazing".
Natalia Zulian, 20, is two terms in and enjoys challenging herself to keep learning something new.
"I had done aerials before that. We just have a great group of supportive people. I love seeing what my body can do. I find it so interesting. I can't ride a bike but I can climb to the top of a silk and do some cool stuff."
Classes are run during the week.
They include aerial classes on Monday and Wednesday nights, acrobalance classes on Wednesday night and a child friendly class teaching a variety of skills on Thursday morning that is also great for people just getting back into exercising.
Circus WOW also prepares routines for public performance for those interested in performing at events such as International Women's Day.
Next year will be Circus WOW's 20th anniversary.
But the next public activity after Saturday's open day will be a Wuthering Heights Flash Mob in Crown Street Mall on July 13 at 11am.
It is the third time Circus WOW has been involved with the global event and this year it is supporting SASSI in the Illawarra.
Each year Circus WOW calls for women in the community to turn out wearing billowing red frocks for a re-enactment of the official video for the popular 70's Kate Bush song Wuthering Heights.
The annual event is part of a global event called The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever that all started in 2013 when 300 British impersonators transformed a Sussex park into a video clip.
But this Saturday Ms McKay is encouraging people to consider staying the whole time at the open day so they can see everything Circus WOW does.
"Because sometimes you don't know what you are going to connect with," she said.
"Anyone can be a member and support us. We have one lady who is particularly interested in making costumes.
"We work in a space at Switchfit Gym which is very community oriented and they are very supportive of us. We really appreciate that community spirit that comes from them".
