Engineers Australia Experience It! Student Conference comes on the back of the latest census which showed just 13.6 per cent of Australia's engineering labour force were women.
About 200 high school girls from the Illawarra will attend Friday's event.

Engineers Australia organiser Caryn Morgan and other industry experts will also talk about their personal achievements, the value of science and advanced maths subjects at school and career prospects awaiting young women.
Seven of Australia's top eight engineering universities will run workshops which will challenge the students to build strong bridge structures, track a virus, create a water filtration system and build a floating house.
