There were reports of multiple flares activated off-shore, alerting emergency services to the scene.
According to Surf Life Saving Illawarra, the six males on board made it safely back to shore with no injuries.
Police reported there had been an issue with the 27-foot fibreglass boat's propeller, but the incident didn't pose a marine hazard.
Surf Life Saving Illawarra duty officers and Bellambi Lifesavers responded to the incident, including a lifeguard on a jetski.
