With the league-leading Wolves hosting last-placed Hakoah, the match was anything but the cakewalk many expected it to be.

Scott's strike in the 34^th minute was the only goal of the game, with a committed Hakoah largely neutralising the Wolves attacking weapons.

While the Wolves controlled the first half, it was the visitors who had the better of the opportunities in the second. In the end, Wollongong's defence held firm, resisting a number of attacking raids.

Wollongong coach Luke Wilkshire was pleased his side was able to secure the victory, but said they will have to perform much better in the coming weeks.

"I'm pleased with the three points, I'm always pleased with the three points, but you could say our levels and our standards, we didn't reach those heights today," Wilkshire said.

"It's a cliche, but there's no such thing as an easy game, Hakoah are fighting for their lives, they want to make it difficult and they did. For me, we didn't reach the levels I know this team can play at, so in that respect, it's disappointing."

While the first half of the season was all about Thomas James in front of goal for the Wolves, Scott has emerged as a genuine strike weapon throughout the past six weeks.

The former Western Sydney Wanderer has scored six goals in the past four matches, his form peaking at the right time of the year.

The run of form, he says, comes down to confidence and his teammates' ability to deliver perfect service.

"As a striker, if you score one, you keep that form going and don't find it as hard to score," Scott said.

"The main thing for me is to keep working hard. I work hard for the team and as I've been doing that, the goals have been coming.

"We have a great team all over the park, our front line really links up together well and boys at the back know what we're trying to do and we all fit the same purpose. It's good we've all got good chemistry together and we move the ball around nice and play good football, that's what leads to our wins."

Sunday was a fruitful afternoon for the Wolves, not only did they secure the victory, but with APIA Leichhardt and Blacktown playing out a 1-all draw, Wollongong were able to move seven points clear on the table with four matches remaining.

With the Waratah Cup final next Sunday, the Wolves will now have a week off before they attempt to wrap up the NPL Premiership.

For Scott, the team will come back from the break ready to finish off the premiership race.

"This is when you want to be hitting your straps, so it's good for me to be coming into form. But all the boys have been playing so well, which is good for us coming into the finals and if we can keep that level going and keep that momentum going, it will be good for us."
