It's the only national event which recognises composers, performers and educations in the field of contemporary classical, jazz and experimental music.
The orchestra is for the Award for Excellence in a Regional Area, for "activities in 2018 and commitment to new Australian music".
"We are all very honoured to be nominated for this award - our members to continue to work hard to promote the arts in our community," artistic director and concert master Kyle Little said.
"We're also excited to feature a new work by Elena Kats-Chernin - another award nominee - which has been commissioned for first concert in 2020."
Others nominated in the category include: the Queensland Symphony Orchestra for Gladstone Enrichment through Music program; Moorambilla Voices for 2018 activities and ongoing commitment to cultural competency and; and Warren H Williams, Michael Sollis and Barkly Arts for One Sky Many Stories.
The awards are a collaboration between APRA, AMCOS and the Australian Music Center.
Some other categories included in the awards are: Jazz Work of the Year, Instrumental Work of the Year, Orchestral Work of the Year, Performance of the Year
The Art Music Awards winners in eleven national categories, as well as state or territory awards, will be announced on August 19 at the Great Hall of the University of Sydney.
