Anglers fishing the Duckmaloi and Fish Rivers in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney can help DPI Fisheries find out more about trout survival and growth rates following the recent release of 150 tagged rainbow trout.
The yearling trout, each about 20cm long, were released as part of a monitoring program to gain information on survival, growth and movement. Check out https://bit.ly/31WNrL6 for details on where the fish were released.
They should be at a catchable size by the opening of the trout season on October 5, and if you're lucky enough to catch one of the tagged fish, you are encouraged to let DPI/Fisheries know date, location, size and if released or kept, with contact details at https://bit.ly/2K4jhf6.
The info you provide will allow DPI researchers to assess trout survival and growth rates and will ultimately help ensure the NSW trout fishery is as productive as possible. This latest release of yearling rainbow trout is part of DPI's tag recapture program which includes tagged trout releases into Oberon Dam, Lake Lyell, Lake Wallace, Carcoar Dam and Khancoban Pondage.
