A severe weather warning has been issued for the Illawarra, with damaging winds expected to hit the region.

Vigorous west to north-westerly winds will be generated ahead of an approaching cold front which is expected to cross the southeast later on Wednesday and early Thursday.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70 km/hour with gusts in excess of 90 km/hour are expected to develop over the Illawarra and parts of the Southern and Central Tablelands from Wednesday evening.
Winds are expected to ease during Thursday morning.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
*Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
*Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
*Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
*Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
There is also a gale warning in place for Illawarra coastal waters.
