After starting the year with an unflattering 3-7 win-loss record, the Kangaroos have experienced a spike in form in their six games under Shaw - winning four, including thumping victories over top-four hopefuls Richmond and Collingwood.

And while momentum seems to be growing for him to complete a remarkable journey to become North's senior coach, Shaw insists the process to find Brad Scott's successor is ongoing.

"It's been interesting. It's business as usual for me, I haven't interviewed yet or anything like that," Shaw said at Arden Street on Wednesday.

"The board's been great in keeping me up to date with whatever's going on."

Shaw's odds of replacing Scott permanently were seemingly boosted in the past week with the Kangaroos' No.1 target John Longmire agreeing to extend his contract with Sydney.

Shaw had no issue with North's initial desire to secure Longmire.

"They kept me in the loop with everything, they explained to me what's going on and how they were going about it and I had no problems with that at all," he said.

Shaw stopped short of confirming if he would apply for the vacant Carlton or St Kilda coaching gigs if he failed to secure the North job, but he did reiterate his desire to become a senior coach eventually.

"That's my goal and I think I'd be lying if I said I wasn't," he said.

"But right now my focus is clearly on North Melbourne and what we're doing here so I really haven't even thought about that far ahead."

While Shaw said he hadn't been given an exact timeline about when the board would ramp up their search for their next senior coach, he denied he felt as if he was in limbo.

"I reckon I'm in a pretty good spot right now, I'm enjoying what I'm doing, it is week to week in how we go about it and that's been my process ever since I took over," he said.

However, he did admit North Melbourne would have to make a decision in a timely manner given how important it was not to delay their list management and recruiting strategy for the post-season.
