In the fight against the disease patients often undergo infusion-based treatments like chemotherapy, which are administered in an oncology centre.
The oncology nurses will take you through each step of the process and provide support and care during your treatment.
Southern Medical Day Care Centre (SMDCC) is a private day-only hospital in Wollongong that has been offering treatments in oncology and day-only infusions over the past 20 years.

SMDCC works in collaboration with Southern Cancer Institute, bringing together leading local oncologists Professor Philip Clingan, Associate Professor Daniel Brungs and Professor Morteza Aghemesheh.
"Our oncologists have been servicing the Wollongong community for over 20 years focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of all cancer types," Professor Clingan said. "Our aim is to provide quality care to our patients.
"We are at the leading edge of treatments for cancer patients. SMDCC offers eligible patients access to globally led clinical trials, allowing our patients to access treatments that are not yet widely available.
"Through our involvement in clinical trials we offer the latest treatment advances in cancer therapy to our patients. While our resources are global, our service is local and personal."
SMDCC was the first to treat patients with a drug developed at the University of Wollongong, still in development phase.
The SMDCC building in Crown Street, Wollongong is a purpose-built facility which incorporates offices and a day-care treatment centre with four treatment chairs and four private rooms.
SMDCC has its own oncology pharmacy where the drugs are compounded daily.

The centre is also certified with Quality Assurance Services (QAS) using National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS).
SMDCC treats all types of cancer and have expertise and knowledge to help patients and families through their treatment.
The centre has highly qualified oncology specialist nursing staff who provide a personalised service to patients and their families.
"We offer comprehensive chemotherapy treatments to oncology patients and various other infusional therapies in our private hospital setting," Sue Parker, director of nursing said.
