The challenge has grown to now include multiple events in August, October and November in aid of fundraising for medical research.

The weekend's rally of cars, motor cycles and scooters heading to the race day lunch helped fundraise to this year's goal of $400,000, according to Tynan Motors group director Madeline Tynan.

The Drive & Scooter, Race Day Luncheon, Paddle and Walk will all assist the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation as well as the University of Wollongong medical research.

They're undertaking projects like developing new antimicrobial drugs.

UOW deputy vice-chancellor Professor Alison Jones previously told the Mercury the research would battle the "spread of superbugs in our regional community".

"Establishing new approaches in improving health care in our region will also allow us to drive innovation in health care at the global scale," she said.

The first challenge was held in 2016 as a celebration of the life and achievements of the late Michael Tynan. Since then almost $1 million has been raised to assist local medical research with the help of many businesses and the media.

"We're doing it under dad's memory because he taught us to give back to the community that gives to us," Ms Tynan said.

"We want everyone to have a better future and not have to go through what we did with our dad. We're hoping there'll be cures out there, not only for people with cancer but a range of different things."
