On Sunday afternoon, an off-duty senior constable was riding a pushbike along the Uloola Falls track, when he almost collided with a motorcycle.
After riding to the Waterfall end of the track, the officer flagged down the motorcyclist and identified himself.
The motorcyclist then tried to ride off, but the police officer grabbed the handle bars.
To try and escape, the man then allegedly attempted to bend the officer's fingers back to loosen his grip and then continued to resist.
He tried to escape a second time and was caught again.
The police were called and arrested the 25-year-old Jannali man.
He was taken to Sutherland police station and charged with assaulting police, resisting an officer, common assault and offences under the National Parks and Wildlife Regulations.
He was bailed to appear at Sutherland Local Court on August 22.
