The decision to award Xerri's 75^th minute try came despite replays appearing to show the bouncing ball deflecting off Sharks back-rower Wade Graham in the lead-up.

Graham admitted he did get a touch on the ball in post-match interviews, leading many to blast the decision to award Xerri's try that came with the scores locked at 12-all.

At his weekly football briefing on Monday Annesley described the criticism as "misinformed" and played full audio of the bunker's consideration of the try.

It revealed officials did not determine that Graham had not got a touch on the ball, but that any deflection traveled backwards before being grabbed by Xerri.

Annesley said that wasn't made clear through the audio and video that was broadcast live.

"Since the game was played most of the commentary around this particular incident seems to have concentrated on whether the video referee missed the contact from Wade Graham as the ball bounced between his arms," Annesley said.

"Wade Graham obviously came out after the game and said yeah the ball did brush his arm. The assumption from that comment has been that the video referee got the decision wrong.

"All of the criticism that's been leveled at the video referee in this decision, I think, is ill-informed because it's focused around whether the video referee believed there'd been a touch from Wade Graham or not.

"I think what the audio clarifies is that that's not the case at all. There was some doubt about whether the ball touched Wade Graham, they then reached the conclusion that potentially it did, they then changed their focus to whether it was knocked forward from that deflection or backwards.

"From my perspective, and the perspective of the NRL as we've reviewed this this morning, we believe the decision was correct."
