The Career Support Program will operate from Dress For Success at 128 Wentworth Street, Port Kembla.
Branch founder and chair Nicki Bowman said Dress For Success has been operating in the Illawarra since 2017.
She said it has been providing disadvantaged women with styling services and free clothing to enable them to be appropriately dressed to attend job interviews, tenancy interviews, court appearances and other key life events.
And now after several months of development and piloting Dress For Success is launching the Career Support Program to extend the range of employability services it offers.
Initially that includes workshops on resume preparation and mock interviews.
"We are thrilled to bring this service to the women of the Illawarra," Mrs Bowman said.
"The launch of this program has been enabled through the generosity of BNY Mellon, long-time supporters of the Career Support Program in our Marrickville branch, who have provided funding for this initial phase of the Program.
"In addition, we have had great local support for the fit-out of our Career Support Centre and the provision of necessary equipment, including a $3500 grant from the BlueScope/WIN Community Fund, and donations of furnishings and office equipment from Choices Flooring Nowra, IMB Bank, Greenacres and South32".
Mrs Bowman said highly experienced HR professionals from local businesses Mercer and HR with Ease will conduct the workshops on a pro-bono basis.
She said such support from the Illawarra business community meant Dress For Success could give disadvantaged women locally access to the best possible guidance and advice.
"We are certain that the Career Support Program will give our clients the increased skills and confidence they need in order to gain empowerment, employment and financial independence, she said.
