Dapto residents are being encouraged to get spring cleaning and return any unwanted, old prescription or unused glasses to their local Specsavers to help restore sight to those most in need.
Global studies show 101.2 million people globally live with a visual impairment because they don't have access to glasses to correct simple vision problems.
So Specsavers Dapto, in partnership with Lions Recycle for Sight, is taking part in a nationwide initiative to collect half a million pairs of worn glasses for faces in need. To put that into perspective if the 500,000 glasses were placed end-to-end they would stretch almost from Dapto to Sydney.
Specsavers Dapto co-owner Lisa Avnell said the business is asking the community to clear out their drawers of old glasses as part of their spring cleaning. She said they can be put to good use by donating them to the cause. "There are still many people facing major problems in developing communities around the world, simply because they don't have access to glasses".
"The more we can collect the better, because every pair of glasses will make a significant difference."
Pre-loved glasses and sunglasses can be placed in a glasses recycling collection box at Specsavers Dapto.
