Police have retrieved human remains from waters off Port Kembla after a recreational diver made the grisly underwater discovery on Saturday afternoon.

The remains are believed to be those of 66-year-old Van Hai Tran, of Bankstown, who went missing on August 24 while rock fishing at Hill 60.
Police were notified on Saturday after a recreational diver found what he believed to be a person underwater near Red Point.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District and Marine Area Command attended the scene, before Police Divers commenced a search and located the remains.
The recovery operation comes a fortnight after an extensive multi-agency search for the Bankstown father.
Mr Tran's family members went looking for him on the Monday after he disappeared and located his silver Toyota Kluger in the car park at Hill 60.
A PolAir helicopter was in the air for about two hours and water police searched for eight hours before the resources were called it off when it got dark.
Police found items of clothing two miles out to sea between Bass and Flinders islands but were unable to locate the body.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
