The 18-year-old took home the Innovation and Technology award.
Judges were particularly impressed with Butson's revolutionary SMART Armour invention that reduces the amount of radiation breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy absorb in their non cancer-affected breast.
Since conjuring up the idea three years ago, Macinley's SMART Armour has been patented and approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
Butson received $35,000 and a full-page advertisement in The Australian Women's Weekly to help further her cause.
She is also a finalist in the Women's Agenda Leadership Awards, to be announced on Friday.
The recognition follows hot on the heels of the 2018 NSW Young Australian of the Year winning the prestigious Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
Last week she became the first Australian to win the award which she received from Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria at a gala ceremony.
Ms Butson was praised for her SMART Armour initiative and a [SODIS] sticker that tests when water is safe to drink. The sticker is capable of potentially saving millions of lives from dangerous biologically contaminated water.
