A woman - believed to be a nurse - was hit by a car in West Wollongong on Thursday morning.
The accident happened near the intersection of Greenacre Road and Northcote Street, West Wollongong, just after 8am.
It is believed the woman, aged in her 50s, had gotten out of a car and was preparing to cross the road.
She looked in one direction for oncoming traffic, then stepped onto the road and was hit by a car travelling in the opposite direction.
She suffered head injuries and was taken by ambulance to nearby Wollongong Hospital.
Police closed the road for a short time after the accident while ambulance officers assessed the patient.
