A 19-year-old man, who was arrested after allegedly walking the streets of Ulladulla with a weapon, will appear in Milton Local Court on Thursday, September 12.
About 12.10am on Wednesday, August 14 South Coast Police District officers were patrolling Golden Valley Drive, Ulladulla.
Police sighted two men, one of which was allegedly in possession of a "gel blaster" assault rifle.
"The officers drew their firearms and directed the man to drop the weapon," a NSW police spokesperson said.
"The firearm was placed on the ground and secured by police."
Police seized the weapon along with parts and ammunition.
The man was arrested and transported to Ulladulla Police Station. His companion was released without charge and given a move on direction, police said.
The man was charged with possess unregistered firearm and unauthorised person possess firearm. He was granted conditional bail
The public are reminded that "gel blasters" are defined as a firearm in NSW and require relevant licencing or permits to have one in your possession, a NSW police spokesperson said.
"Further to this, it is an offence to supply, acquire, possess or use a firearm that is not registered."
