Installations by dozens of artists will be sprawled around Killalea State Park in Shell Cove.
The works will be on display with various events woven in - like twilight markets, a family day, interactive workshops for adults and children, a makers and creator market, plus artists talks and demonstrations.
The annual sculpture festival runs from September 13 to 22.
This year's festival incorporates two additional sites, Stockland Shellharbour and Shellharbour Civic Centre.
Event director Courtney Beaton said the festival was now in its fourth year.
"There's some amazing works on show, and we've got a family day on Saturday, so there's a bunch of stuff for kids to get involved in," she said on Friday.
"It's a beautiful venue that's complemented by some amazing works.
"There's been huge amounts of people through the gates already today."
The winner of this year's competition major prize and $5000 went to B. Jane Cowie, for her work Swirling Surround.
Runner-up was Michael Greve for Ganesh.
