Two Fire and Rescue NSW trucks were called to the blaze in a paddock behind the Grange Golf Club about 1.30pm.
The fire burnt about four hectares of thick grass before crews were able to bring it under control.
Two extra trucks were called to the scene as a precaution due an increase in wind speed as firefighters worked to extinguish hotspots.
No properties were under threat as of 4.45pm.
Black smoke had filled the air above Kembla Grange and reduced visibility on the Princes Highway and Kembla Grange Racetrack.
