The Leisure Coast Fruit and Deli in Fairy Meadow has announced it would trial buckets, instead of bags, to indicate which price category applies produce.
But the buckets are available for only some of the giant store's fresh produce selection, including bananas and lemons. Others, including apples, oranges and potatoes, are still using bags.
"We will be trialling these new reusable buckets over the next few weeks in replacement of plastic bags in an effort to reduce our environmental footprint," management said on the store's Facebook page.
"It may take some time to integrate them across most of the store so we appreciate your patience.
"You are still more than welcome to bring your own reusable checkout bags for the checkout staff to pack your groceries."
The store has traditionally indicated the different prices of a particular fruit or vegetable - based on their different grades - with different coloured bags.
The result was a plastic-heavy shopping experience, and it's intended the buckets will replace some of this.
Customers are invited to give feedback on the issue, the store's statement said.
"We appreciate the feedback we have had so far and welcome any new ideas to make your shopping experience easier that will have a minimal environmental impact," it said.
