Wollongong City Council has given October 19 as the date for the pool to re-open - with the usual caveats about the sea and the weather.
"Work to replace Thirroul Pool's aged intake pipes is going well, despite some challenging swell conditions in recent months," a spokeswoman said.
"After [October 19], provided we get good tides, seas and swell, there will be some further work needed on the beach to wrap up the project, but the intake pipes will be operational.
"There are good tide conditions forecast for next week and, if we also get good swell conditions, specialist divers will be onsite to install the intake ends for the pipe approximately 70m out to sea."
October 19 had not previously been mentioned as the reopening date by council, whose statements said it would be finished "in Spring". But the spokeswoman said this newly nominated re-opening date fit with the council's estimates for completion, and the work was also presently within budget.
It will mean the pool would miss its usual annual opening date of September 28, but not by much.

The tender was let to Dynamic Civil Pty Ltd in May for $876,559.
Also in progress over winter was repair work inside the pool, which council also said was proceeding well and would also be completed in time for an October 19 re-opening.
"Some of this work has been finished including the replacement of 150 broken pool tiles, the repairs to the expansion joints, the re-grouting of the main pool and the non-slip coating for the toddler's pool ramp," the spokeswoman said.
"Work on the most complex aspect of this phase of maintenance of the pool - the relining of the toddler pool outlet has been completed. There will be further work on the concourse over the coming weeks."
This maintenance work initially went to tender for $220,000 but this was reduced to $91,000 after council removed the toddle pool outlet work and placed it in another job council was managing at the beach.
