But this year, the annual paper daisy display has been marred early in the season.

Visitors striving for the perfect Instagram photo have tramped a portion of the iconic display, ruining that part of the sea of daisies for everyone for the rest of the season.

The garden's curator manager John Siemon told the Advertiser earlier this month that the display was in pristine condition.

He implored the public to look after the delicate flowers and stick to the paths, but it appears his pleas fell on deaf ears.

"Two thousand square metres of native species, including a massive display of Western Australian paper daisies are currently blooming at the Australian Botanic GArden, Mount Annan," Mr Siemon said.

"Unfortunately, a small section has been damaged by people standing in the garden beds.

"We know visitors love to take photos of the paper daisies and the display has sealed paths and signage to show where people can pose to get the best photos surrounded by paper daisies."

When an image of the tramped flowers were first posted to the Botanic Garden's Facebook page, hundreds of people shared their outrage and disbelief at the display of disrepect.

The post reminded visitors they risk a $500 fine for failing to stick to the designated paths in their pursuit of the perfect picture.

Despite the portion of ruined garden beds, Mr Siemon said there were still plenty of beautiful flowers for visitors to enjoy.

"Over a million seeds were planted this year - more than ever - and the pink, yellow and white carpet of flowers will continue to look gorgeous until the end of October," he said.

"We just ask that visitors stick to the pathways when viewing the flowers and taking photos so that everyone can continue to enjoy the display."

The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan is located off Narellan Road. It is open 8am-5pm every day.
