"I have not toured solo for five years, and I'm doing this run of shows because I am writing again and I want to focus my energy on the songs not the spectacle," he said.
"It's great in music to be able to show works in progress before you have to hang them up on the wall."
The show will draw on songs from across his entire career, including No Aphrodisiac, Blow Up the Pokies, Buy Now and Pay Later and Thank You (for loving me at my worst).
"Hopefully the new songs aren't too successful though, otherwise I'll earn too much to retain my franking credits," he said.
"Unfortunately, like every one else in the world, I just had to express myself."
Freedman will perform on Thursday, October 17 at The Music Lounge, Wollongong.
