That's if the club's development application for a $2 million renovation is approved by Shellharbour City Council.

The club's big plans will see a bowling green converted into an open terrace and children's play area, the existing lounge will be extended and there will be a new bar and café at the Barrack Heights community hub.

There will also be a new food preparation area, amenities and additional car parking.

The club's general manager Phillip Kipp said installing a new outdoor children's play area would cater for the many families that come to the club.

"Whilst we have existing children's play areas adjoining Red Sands Bar and Grill and another that services our accommodation, the new space will have a different style of children's play area," he said. "It will give parents more options to put smiles on the faces of their kids whilst they're at the club."

Mr Kipp revealed the cafe would be a pizza and gelato offering. He said the new bar would be a point of difference from the existing bars.

"It will have a strong focus on craft beers and an extensive wine list, both by the bottle and the glass, all in a contemporary, fresh al fresco setting," Mr Kipp said.

The club currently has five bowling greens, including three grass greens, an indoor green and a seldom-used synthetic green.

"It was an easy decision to replace the existing synthetic green with this exciting al fresco space," Mr Kipp said.

The club's board of directors have been planning the renovation for 12 months and hope it will provide "state of the art facilities that meet the needs and expectations of the community".

The renovation works are primarily contained to the northwestern bowling green area and therefore only minimal disruptions to patrons are expected.

Mr Kipp said club management was ready to proceed as soon as the development application was approved.

The project is expected to take about three to four months to complete.
