The Rex Jackson Oval line maker came across the 4WD tyre marks at 6am on Friday morning.
Helensburgh Thistles Soccer Club manager Klete Loveday said he was "disappointed" but grateful the damage was not more severe.
"It looks like the 4WD has gotten onto the soccer field from the top oval because there are no barriers or fences there," he said.
"Then the car has done a hot lap, driven straight across the cricket pitch and done two or three burnouts.
"Thankfully there is no major damage to the field or athletics track."
Helensburgh and District Little Athletic Centre committee member John Argall said Friday night's training had to be cancelled to prevent further damage to the oval after rain washed away the lose dirt.
Soccer, touch football, cricket and little athletics clubs use the oval all year round.
Mr Loveday said all the clubs' hard working committee volunteers did not deserve the vandalism.
"The committees work hard all year round to ensure there is good playing conditions at the fields," Mr Loveday said.
"The weather has also not been kind this year and we have barely had enough water to keep the grass growing.
"What little grass we had left has now been damaged. We will be lucky if it grows back by Christmas for our summer soccer competition."
Wollongong City Council's groundskeeper patched up and filled the track marks so it was no longer a trip hazard on Friday.
A council spokesman said access to the sporting complex would be reviewed.
"The council is disappointed to see one of our much-loved sports fields vandalised," he said.
"Our sports fields play an important role in our community and we do not like to see any of our parks and field damaged by reckless behaviour.
"We will work with the local cricket association to continue repair work, such as a top dressing, next week to prepare the oval for the coming cricket season."
Mr Loveday said the soccer field and the football field used by the Helensburgh Tigers Rugby League Club had been torn up by vandals in two seperate incidents earlier this year.
He would like to see the whole complex fenced to stop 4WDs gaining access but understands that would be an expensive job for the council and clubs.
"We have already worked with the council to get a new fence on one side of the field because it was falling apart and provided easy access for drivers," Mr Loveday said.
"We need fences on all sides to keep these boofheads out.
"But Helensburgh is not the only sporting field that needs to be fenced."
Wollongong police have been notified of the damage and anyone with information about the vandalism are urged to contact them.
