In June last year Roads and Maritime Services (now Transport for NSW) released a plan for safety improvements at the intersection or Bourke, Virginia and Keira streets.
It is a troublesome intersection, especially for motorists turning right out of Virginia Street, who generally have to cross one lane of traffic, and then stop in the middle before moving into the other lane.
The plan put forward for public comment last year would see traffic lights installed at the intersection, as well as a ban on right turns from Bourke Street into Virginia Street southbound and Keira Street northbound.
Feedback from the public was sought for the proposal - with some people opting for a roundabout rather than lights at the staggered intersection.
"All feedback received will be used to assist with further investigations to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection," a Transport for NSW spokesman said.
Now, more than a year after the plan was announced, any safety upgrade to the North Wollongong intersection appears on hold.
The relevant project page on the Roads and Maritime Services page has not been updated since January.
It appears the installation of traffic lights is on hold until money is freed up for the project.
"Transport for NSW is currently exploring options to fund further development of the proposal," the Transport for NSW spokesman said.
