But the drought to see local artists and touring bands in a cool Wollongong venue is about to be broken.
The Mercury can reveal a new live music bar La La La's will open in Globe Lane next month.
It's the brainchild of promoters Yours and Owls and former UOW UniBar manager Nathan Stratton.
The venue, which will take over the Another Burger Joint space, promises to offer "live music, tasty food and great booze" with a relaxed pub-vibe.
Venue manager Nathan Stratton said La La La's would be a continuation of what was offered at RAD Bar.
"RAD Bar left a huge void in the music scene in Wollongong," he said.
"Nothing could replace it as RAD Bar's legacy will always be looked on fondly.
"La La La's will have live music and will become its own scene."
Mr Stratton believes a live music bar is perfect for a building that has seen several businesses come and go.
"La La La's will be a multi-level, purpose-built live music venue that will be a place to hang out," he said.
"We're calling it a small pub and we're pretty keen to build that kind of community around it.
"A few years ago Globe Lane was considered the arts precinct given places like Little Prince and His Boy Elroy but it is shame that vibe has been lost.
"We hope this venue will bring back energy to Globe Lane and see regular foot traffic.
"We hope the location will allow us to put on events and not receive noise complaints."
Construction is currently under way to create a dive bar on the ground level that will have a pub or small bar feel.
Level one will be a live music and arts space complete with a stage and audiovisual equipment.
The mezzanine level will have pinball machines and pool tables.
Yours and Owls along with Mr Stratton are keen to make La La La's Wollongong's best venue for new talent and good times.
"We want to attract touring acts that come through Wollongong and become a breeding ground for local upcoming artists," Mr Stratton said.
The venue will officially launch November 14 with local four-piece TOTTY.
The venue will then round out the year with a full program of events including Rad's takeover, The Pinheads takeover, Luen and her female DJ workshop, Pissfart Records takeover and Music Farmer's 15th Birthday with Shining Bird and other special guests.
