A Unanderra man is facing up to seven years behind bars after stabbing his own brother in the stomach outside Wollongong's methadone clinic earlier this year.
Timothy Marskell, 39, and Daniel Bonacina, 41, started out the morning of April 12 as firm friends, with Marskell picking his brother up from his nearby house just after 7am and driving the pair to the clinic to get their methadone dose.
Marskell parked on Urunga Parade and the two men began walking to the clinic but soon got into an argument, which quickly turned physical as the siblings began to push each other.
Marskell pulled out a small, black-coloured pocket knife and stabbed Mr Bonacina in the abdomen.
A witness sitting outside the clinic saw Mr Boncina go white and use both hands to hold his stomach, while Marskell called out for help, then fled the scene in his vehicle.
Mr Bonacina told the witness "I don't think I'm going to make it".
The man helped Mr Bonacina walk to Wollongong Hospital where he was immediately admitted for surgery, as part of his bowel was protruding through the wound.
Police set up a crime scene at the clinic and obtained CCTV footage of the incident which confirmed witness accounts of what happened.
Officers arrived at Marskell's home about 10.30 that morning.
Two females at the home told officers that Marskell was not at the premises, however police located him about an hour later.
He was arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and reckless wounding.
Marskell was remanded in custody however has since been granted bail and fronted Wollongong Local Court in person on Wednesday.
In a deal with prosecutors, Marskell agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of reckless wounding in exchange for the more serious charge against him to be withdrawn.
Marksell, who was supported in court by his parents and a female, will be sentenced on November 1.
Meanwhile, court documents said Mr Bonacina spent several days in hospital receiving post-treatment care for an eviscerated bowel.
He was discharged on April 16.
The police facts were silent on whether the brothers have mended their rift, however a current apprehended violence order does exist between the pair.
