Kate McLisky, who lived near the inner-Brisbane intersection where Dominik Schulze is alleged to have been murdered, says she woke about 4am to men arguing aggressively and swearing on October 6, 2017.

Ms McLisky told the trail of Brisbane man Jamie Saxon, who has pleaded not guilty to murder, that the most frightening part was when a man threatened to stab someone.

"The voice changed into extreme anger, beyond anything I had heard before that," she told the Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday.

Ms McLisky said after the threats, she heard a woman scream, "Jamie, no" many times.

"She was pleading. She sounded really afraid and sort of desperate," Ms McLisky said.

Saxon was a passenger in a car driven by his girlfriend, Jessica Wilkes, when she ran into Mr Schulze, who was standing in the road with his pants down.

He had been walking home with a friend following a night of drinking.

Ms Wilkes told the court Mr Schulze had jumped up from the ground after she hit him, pulled up his pants and was aggressive when they got out of the car.

She said Ms Schulze and his friend had both pushed her and Saxon.

The men also threw punches but these did not connect because they were so drunk, Ms Wilkes said.

She said she tried desperately to stop a fight between Saxon and Mr Schulze and his friend.

Ms Wilkes said she saw Saxon get a knife from the car but did not see Mr Schulze being stabbed.

Defence barrister Kim Bryson told the jury in her opening statement there was no dispute Saxon killed Mr Schulze.

She said Saxon's motive would be contested during the trial.
