The Piaf & Aznavour... Back in Time show is headed to Wollongong.
The new theatrical show, created in Australia, is being performed in the Illawarra for the first time.
The show is based on the music and lives of influential late French performers Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour.
French-born Corinne Andrew will perform the role of Piaf for the show's first appearance in the Illawarra.
The role of Aznavour will be sung by Sydney-based entertainer Milko Foucault-Larche, who also wrote and directed the show.
Foucault-Larche, who was born in Mauritius, is a keen ambassador for French popular music in Australia.
"This show was in my head for a year," he said.
"Finally last year I started doing the research and trying to figure out what I was going to do with it.
"They are undoubtedly the most famous French recording artists from after the war."
He said Back in Time is a mix of theatre and cabaret.
He also said it wasn't just a show, but a "cultural event" that was often educational for fans of French culture and history.
"I've treated it like a little musical, with us playing the parts of Piaf and Aznavour," Foucault-Larche said.
While France has produced plenty of musical artists who have gained popularity in French-speaking countries, they haven't typically had many acts enjoy wider commercial success internationally.
Foucault-Larche said this was possibly because few popular French songs have been adapted to be performed by English-speaking artists during recent times.
"There are some great French songs that are just popular in French-speaking countries, and nobody else has been keen for whatever reason to translate them and adapt them," he said.
The event is presented by The Alliance Franaise Illawarra.
The show will take place on Sunday, November 3 at City Diggers, Wollongong at 2.30pm.
