The Hawks slipped to 1-6 with a tight loss to Perth in Wollongong on Sunday, one that cost them Aaron Brooks for the rest of the season with a ruptured achilles.
They face a tough task in bouncing back but Flinn says the long prep can turn things for his side.
"We've played four games and practiced once," Flinn said post-match.
"Particularly with a younger group you need to make adjustments. We spoke before the game about, win lose or draw, being able to look each other in the eye after the game and know you've done everything you can.
"I felt we achieved that and we pushed them right to their limit. We weren't able to get the win but there were a lot of positive signs that we've turned the corner and we're moving in the right direction"
