With 10,000 cyclists taking part in the 82km ride leaving Tempe at 6am and the 58km ride from Engadine at 8am road closures will occur at different times in different locations.
The MS Sydney to Gong will finish at Lang Park in Wollongong where some road closures will remain until 4.30pm.
Transport for NSW advises cyclists will share roads with motorists for the majority of the course however sections of roads at the start and finish areas and lanes along major roads will be closed for the safety of cyclists.
ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES:
- 4am to 10am from Tempe to Taren Point: Sections of West Botany St, Holbeach Ave and Bestic St will be closed. Lane closures on sections of Princes Hwy, The Grande Pde and Captain Cook Bridge. Speed limit reduced to 60km/h on sections of Captain Cook Bridge and Princes Hwy.
- 4am to 11:30am from Kirrawee to Waterfall: Lane closures on the Princes Hwy from Kirrawee to Loftus and speed limit reduced to 60km/h from Kirrawee to Waterfall. Long southbound delays on the Princes Hwy are expected during this time.
- 5am to 3pm in the Royal National Park: McKell Ave, Lady Wakehurst Dr, Sir Bertram Stevens Dr and Otford Rd will be closed. Access to the Royal National Park is via Farnell Ave only.
- 6am to 4:30pm in Wollongong: sections of Endeavour Dr, Bourke St, Cliff Rd, George Hanley Dr and Ellliots Rd will be closed. Speed limit reduced to 40km/h on Lawrence Hargrave Dr from Stanwell Park to Thirroul until 3pm and on Squires Way from Fairy Meadow to Wollongong from 7:15am until 2pm.
Motorists are also reminded when overtaking cyclists to leave a 1.5 metre distance on roads with speed limits over 60km/h and a 1.0 metre distance on roads 60km/h or under.
Special event clearways will be in place along key sections of the course between 4am and 11am in Sydney and between 5am and 4.30pm along the rest of the route to Wollongong.
Clearways are strict no-parking zones even for local residents and RMS Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.
Transport for NSW advises motorists to check signage, exercise caution and allow extra travel time on Sunday.
And for those wanting to take public transport special event trains run from Wollongong back to Central for participants.
