Ex-Campbelltown cop and Wollongong resident Dennis Hoyn was charged with 22 offences following his arrest last December on the back of a 10-month investigation into an alleged cannabis ring operating out of a Wollongong apartment block.
Hoyn, who remains on bail, fronted Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday where it was revealed he will stand trial on six charges of misconduct in public office, stemming from allegations he released information from the NSW police database to people without authority.
Prosecutors formally withdrew two charges against Hoyn, including one of accepting a bribe as a NSW police officer.
The remaining charges are considered back-up or related offences that will not proceed to trial.
Among those Hoyn is alleged to have passed information to is Wollongong man Goran Desptovski, who along with his Lily Despatoski, was also arrested last December.
Prosecutors allege they had evidence of the couple directly supplying at least 140kgs of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $2.8million over a 10-month period.
Lily has since been released on bail however Goran remains behind bars.
Court documents say Hoyn is accused of releasing "confidential information" to Despatovski on the night of December 4 at a pub in Corrimal.
Meanwhile, police will allege Hoyn accessed restricted data held in the police computer system and supplied it to "various persons not entitled to [that] restricted data", including information on vehicles.
The alleged access is said to have occurred four times between February and December 2018.
Police have named three recipients (aside from Despatovski) of the information in charge sheets presented to the court however the Mercury has chosen not to name the individuals at this stage of the proceedings.
Outside court, Hoyn told waiting media that he was no longer employed by the NSW Police Force - he had held the rank of senior constable with the Campbelltown highway patrol at the time of the alleged offending.
Hoyn's matter was adjourned to November 12 for arraignment in Wollongong District Court, while the cases against Despatovski and his wife will return to court on November 13.
