"I hope this isn't a prank," he said to the NSW Lotteries official who called to tell him his numbers had come up in the Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1456.
The excited winner plans to use his prize money to pay off his mortgage and travel around Australia - but not before celebrating over a bottle of champagne with his wife.
"I will go out with my wife for a nice dinner tonight," he said.
"We'll pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate and we'll try to decide how to spend our prize.
"We'll pay off the mortgage first.
"We'd like to do a bit of a road trip around Australia. I am not really sure yet though."
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his ticket at X-tra Warrawong at Warrawong Plaza.
X-tra Warrawong owner Steve Vo said he was thrilled to have sold a 1st Prize winning entry.
"It is so great. As soon as we saw we'd sold the prize we were so ecstatic," he said.
"We are very happy for our winner and we wish him all the best with his prize.
"Hopefully we sell some more major prize-winning entries soon."
