The Illawarra Innovative Industry Network (i3net) showcased Wollongong nationally on Thursday and Friday with its 8th annual Illawarra Industry Showcase.

The two day event included a tour of local industry that began with a visit to TRICEP, the Translational Research Initiative for Cell Engineering and Printing.
Delegates ANSTO, BAE Systems Australia, Bylong Coal Project, Navantia, Australian Industrial Energy (AIE), Remondis BlueScope, Cement Australia, Cleanaway Resource Co, Energy Australia, NSW Ports, Seymour White, SLR/Peabody, Transport for NSW and Veolia.saw a world leading facility specialising in bioprinting, 3D printing, biomaterials, materials science, bioinks, and bioprinters. They discovered how TRICEP addresses industry challenges that require a tailored solution.
The second stop was DBC which specialises in doing maintenance at height and in confined spaces. The delegates arrived in time to see teams training rope in access work. They were also invited to climb stairs to view their work from above. That was followed by a visit to NSW Ports site and visit Vesuvius, a world leader in the design, engineering, manufacturing and delivery of refractory offerings, systems, and services for high technology industrial applications.
Thursday evening saw delegates an local industry leaders gather at the Novotel for a sold out industry dinner and expo which was a chance for many of the delegates to speak.
Chair Emilio Salucci said a new format was intruded to give as many of the visiting delegates as possible a chance to speak so no matter what industry i3net members were involved in they would hear from a speaker of particular interest to them.
The Illawarra Industry Showcase concluded with an industry breakfast at the Novotel on Friday where many i3net members including Assett, CorrWear, Leadership Creativity, MCR Electrical Services, Illawarra Security Guards, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and EnterpriseIS and SOTO gave a three minute pitch.
In wrapping up the two day event Mr Salucci said to the visiting delegates "as you can see we have got a really good core group of capabilities in Wollongong".
"One thing we are not good at is celebrating our successes. We love Wollongong. It is a great area to live and bring up your kids. We have a great university, great TAFE and great industry. The capabilities are immense in this region. Each and every business in this room should be proud of what the Illawarra has to offer. And to the visiting delegates I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and the i3net board for making the time to be here.".
