Two trailblazers of women's bowls in the region have been honoured with Merle Richardson elevated to Bowls Australia Legend status and Karen Murphy universally accoladed after announcing her international retirement.

Corrimal bowler Richardson rewrote the record books during her era in Australian bowls and is regarded as among the greatest players to take up the game.
Richardson's remarkable career was recognised at the 2019 Bowls Australia Hall of Fame and Awards Night on the Gold Coast with her elevation to Legend of Australian Bowls status, while on the same night Albion Park superstar Brett Duprez was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Karen Murphy also announced at the BA Awards Night her international retirement at the end of 2019.
Murphy is among the finest players to represent Australia, competing at five Commonwealth Games - winning two gold medals - and at five World Championships, winning four gold medals.
