A Queensland man has been refused bail in Wollongong Local Court on Monday after being charged with a pursuit that police say spanned almost 200 kilometres.
Traffic and Highway police allege they saw a Toyota Camry travelling above the speed limit on the Federal Highway near Collector on Friday.
The driver, Gene Harris, failed to comply with police attempts to stop the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued northbound on the Hume Highway before being terminated due to safety reasons, police said.
The vehicle continued to travel through Marulan, Sutton Forest and Robertson before police lost sight of the vehicle near Albion Park.
Lake Illawarra police, highway patrol, the dog unit and PolAir searched the Albion Park and Yellow Rock areas and a man was arrested in Tongarra about 9.15pm.
The man's vehicle was located hidden in nearby bushland.
The 37-year-old man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, two counts of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, enter inclosed land, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension, possess prohibited drug and deal with property proceeds of crime.
The case was adjourned until November 26.
