State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad detectives started an investigation after receiving information about the supply and acquisition of firearms.
As part of ongoing investigations, strike force investigators arrested two men at a park in North Wollongong about 12.30pm on Monday.
Following the arrests, two search warrants were executed at homes on Bertone Close, Fairy Meadow, and Bethlehem Street, Cringila.
During the searches, police seized mobile phones, electronic storage devices, and other electronic equipment.
The men were taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with acquire firearm without permit.
The pair were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.
