As part of a unique collaboration between the Mercury and the Sydney Kings, we are giving away 200 tickets for free to Sunday's clash at Qudos Bank Arena between the Kings and the Illawarra Hawks. There will also be a heavily discounted ticket offer for people who miss out on the giveaway.
"What we are hoping to do is build a Hawks Nest of Illawarra supporters inside the Kings' stadium to support our team on Sunday," Illawarra Mercury editor Julian O'Brien said.
"We want people to wear their Hawks gear and be very loud to take it to our arch rival Kings."
Illawarra businessman Paul Smith, who is the owner chairman of the Kings, said the initiative was to try and help get New South Wales ownership of a unique piece of basketball history.
"We want New South Wales to come together and set the new record attendance for a regular season NBL game and the target is 17,142," Smith said.
"We want to bring along the Hawks fans to experience a piece of history."
The Kings and Hawks have one of the long established and fiercest rivalries in Australian sport.
"Only 137 points separate the two clubs in all of the contests (94 games to be exact) between them and last year the Hawks touched us up, which cost us dearly," he said.
" And in this game you've got LaMelo Ball coming up against one of the players in Casper Ware who is an all-time great of the league."
Sunday's game will also act as a fundraiser for bush fire victims across NSW and Queensland. The Kings will partner with the national Salvation Army appeal and there will be donation points at Qudos Bank Arena where people can contribute.
Sunday's game tips off at Qudos at 3 pm.
