"For 15 years I sat on the sidelines, sat on the side of the road and waved to the trucks and bikes," he said.
"I rode in Convoy last year for the first time in the general public riding. That's when I thought, 'there has to be more, we have to do more'.
"So we started 'Bikers 4 Heroes', and hopefully we started a movement."
Two days after last year's Convoy, he co-founded the Illawarra-based 'Bikers 4 Heroes' group.
This is a collective of motorcycle enthusiasts who dress up as superheroes and fundraise.
The group raises funds for the Convoy, in order to make a strong 'Lead Bike' bid and donation for the event.
Albion Park resident Mr Butler, aka Captain America, said without business backing, the group raised $45,000 to bid and donate in this year's lead motorbike auction.
The group's funds were raised via a number of events, including charity walks, trivia nights, a masquerade ball and motorcycle rides.
"We've done the hard yards... I'm just over the moon," Mr Butler said.
The group has 17 members, the majority of which will don their superhero outfits - including Batman, Spiderman and Deadpool - and take part in this Sunday's Convoy.
"We're just going to ride down that mountain, we're going to click it up a gear and we're going to have an absolute ball," Mr Butler said.
"We just want to see people clapping and waving, and embracing in what we're feeling."
This Sunday, the Yates family will lead the motorbikes for the Illawarra Convoy with 'Kye's Convoy Dream', in honour of 10-year-old Kye Yates, who died in June.
Bidding for the lead bikes took place on Wednesday, as Kye's Mum, Dad and two sisters placed the winning bid of $105,000.
A motorbike enthusiast and supporter of Convoy, Kye's death inspired family, friends and members of the community to raise funds for the 2019 event.
