Smith was loaned out to the American club in August 2018 following a long spell on the bench at his English Premier League side after falling behind left back Charlie Daniels in the Cherries' pecking order.

The 26-year-old went on to rack up six assists and be undefeated in 23 of 33 games he played for Sounders, culminating in their 3-1 MLS Cup final victory over Toronto FC on Sunday night.

The defender says he got messages of support from Bournemouth teammates and manager Eddie Howe before and after the trophy win.

Smith, who's currently on international duty with the Socceroos in Jordan, says a few clubs are circling but he's still a Cherries player and he's open to returning to Dean Court.

"There's always a chance in football," he told AAP.

"Things change very quickly and ultimately me going out on loan and getting game time is important for me and important for Bournemouth as well. I've kind of got into form and proved I'm still a player.

"I'll go back and sit down and maybe he (manager Eddie Howe) wants me in his plans and if that's the case then I'm happy to be a part of it and be there."

But the defender says his top priority has always been playing for his country again with his form last month earning him his first Socceroos call up in two years.

He started and set up an assist for Adam Taggart's second goal in Australia's 7-1 demolition of Taiwan in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers on October 15.

Now Smith is again set to start ahead of Aziz Behich on the left side of defence as Australia take on Jordan on Thursday (Friday 3am AEDT).

"The reason I pushed to go out on loan to a place where I could find game time and form was a big part of getting back into the Socceroos set-up," he said.

"I missed being involved and watching all the games, I had a two-year break and I was just really eager because it's a dream come true for me every time I get called up to wear the shirt."
