A new specialist disability accommodation home, 'Hillview', has opened in Wongawilli.
The home has been built for purpose to enable independence for people such as Ms Smith, 33, who are living with complex physical and intellectual disabilities and require 24/7 support.
She will be moving into the house next Wednesday.
"The things I like best about the home is that we each have our own bedroom and bathroom, and my room is right at the end of the hallway," she said at the project launch on Friday.
"I have been telling all my work mates and friends about the new home, and they all want to come and live here, and share the fun we will be having.
"My Cram carers call me the 'Uno queen', and I hope my housemates and carers are up for the occasional Uno challenge."
Disability service provider The Cram Foundation and Illawarra developers Built 4 Purpose launched the new housing project.
The Wongawilli project aims to give National Disability Insurance Scheme participants with complex disabilities the opportunity to live independently.
The collaboration also seeks to provide 24-hour support.
The new Wongawilli premises is one of several new projects The Cram Foundation are working towards to enable greater independence.
"As one of the Illawarra's oldest disability service providers, this project with Built 4 Purpose is an extension of our vision to support our participants to live their best life in an environment suited to their specific needs," Cram's CEO Karen Burdett said on Friday.
Ms Burdett said she was excited about what this housing means for its new residents.
"This collaboration has directly enabled three new participants the chance to reach their goal of living independently through person centred care and support in a beautiful home that is tailored to their needs," she told the Mercury.
