The win snapped a two-game losing streak and Maddinson said his side will gain plenty of confidence from it.

"It was definitely what we needed," Maddinson said. "It was good to finally put a full match together.

"We'll take plenty of confidence out of that, we were understrength, had three first grade debuts, so it was great to get the win."

David Wood set the tone for the Lighthouse Keepers, the quick taking 5-28 to help bowl Helensburgh out for 192.

Opener David Studholme then ensured Wollongong were always ahead of the required run rate, the veteran scoring 79 off 72 balls to put his team in touching distance of victory.

Kain Flynn-Duncombe and debutant Tyler Sherman then guided the side to a five-wicket win inside 40 overs.

"Runs just flowed for us. Dave set the platform early, scored 70 in the typical fashion he does, he hits them all over the place, then everyone else chipped in."

"Dave's laid the platform at the start of the innings most games, he's our in-form batsman so hopefully that can continue."
